How to Make a 4 Point Ninja Star

The ninja star, also known as a shuriken, is an ancient Japanese concealed weapon. They are better known throughout the western hemisphere as "throwing stars" and are used for throwing, stabbing or slashing. Making a four-point ninja star is one of the most popular origami designs. It is made with two separate pieces of paper that are tucked into each other to create one final piece.

Instructions

    • 1

Fold a piece of square origami paper in half. Unfold the paper to reveal two equally sized sections. Fold each section in half by bending the outside edge toward the original fold line. Repeat with another piece of square origami paper.

    • 2

Bend each piece of origami paper to fold in half again over the lines, creating two long rectangle shapes.

    • 3

Fold in two opposite corners of your choice on one of the long rectangles. Repeat with the other rectangle, this time folding in the opposite corners of the first rectangle. For example, if you folded in the top right and left bottom corner of the first rectangle, you would fold the top left and bottom right for the second.

    • 4

Take the newly pointed corners on the tops of the rectangles and fold them each straight downward. Take the bottom pointed corners and fold them straight upward. You should be left with a set of double triangles.

    • 5

Align the two double triangle pieces together so that they resemble a four-point star. Tuck the flaps of each piece into each other to bind the two pieces together on one side. Flip over and tuck in the opposite side's flaps as well.
