A Room of Her Own Foundation, named after the famous book by Virginia Woolf, makes grants of up to $50,000 for a two-year period to a female fiction writer or visual artist. Visual artists must work in sculpture, photography or painting. It is called the Gift of Freedom award.

Change, Inc. is a foundation set up by the late Robert Rauschenberg. One-time grants of up to $1,000 are awarded to visual artists based on financial need. The foundation does not have a website or a telephone number. Write the foundation for current guidelines, and be prepared to file reproductions of your artwork and financial information such as bills and other expenses with your application.
