How to Make Hand Rolled Fabric Rosettes

Making your own hand rolled rosettes is a quick and inexpensive way to create decorative items that can be stuck or sewn onto a variety of surfaces, from bags to hair clips. When creating rolled rosettes, it's important to keep an even tension on the felt spiral as it's rolled into position. You could also roll two different colored felt spirals together to create a multicolor rosette.

Instructions

    • 1

Cut a felt square that measures 4 inches by 4 inches. You can use any color felt.

    • 2

Draw and cut a circle inside this square that uses up as much of the square as possible.

    • 3

Cut a rough spiral shape into this circle. Cut from the outside edge of the circle in around the whole circumference of the circle. Try to keep the spiral under 1/4 inch wide. Stop cutting when you reach the middle.

    • 4

Place a small amount of glue onto the very center of the cut spiral. Wrap this end over on itself. This is the center of your rolled fabric rosette.

    • 5

Start to wrap the felt spiral around the center of the rosette. Place a small amount of glue on the felt at small regular intervals. This will stick the felt to itself and help to secure the rolled rosette.

    • 6

Continue to wrap and glue the felt spiral until you reach the end of the felt. Place a small amount of glue on the end of the felt and press and hold this end onto the back of the felt rosette for one to two minutes. Let the hand rolled felt rosette dry.
