Crafts for a Boring Day

Crafts can be a great activity for rainy or uneventful days. There are seemingly endless possibilities, and supplies can be bought cheaply or taken from existing items in the house that aren't being used. Create a craft as a gift for a loved one, have a craft activity day to keep your children occupied, or perhaps, become so enamored with craft making that it's no longer an activity simply for a boring day and becomes a way to make a few bucks.
  1. Scarecrow

    • A great craft if Halloween is approaching or you happen to live on a farm, a scarecrow can be made from materials found around the house. Use tent poles as the skeleton for the scarecrow. Tie the tent poles together using an elastic tie. Use one long pole in the middle and use two that cross the body acting as the arms and legs. The scarecrow can be filled out using hangers and clothes.

    Crown

    • Another simple craft that can be made for a special event or a regular day is the crown. All that is needed is duct tape, glue, straws and pipe cleaner. The tape serves as the band of the crown, while the pipe cleaner and straws, glued to the inside of the tape, decorate the crown. It can be ornate as you'd like.

    Paper Crafts

    • There are seemingly endless ways to create crafts out of paper. One idea is to make a sunflower using yellow and white paper plates, multi-colored buttons and thin ribbons. The white plate serves as the center background of the flower, while the yellow plate's edges can be cut to resemble a sunflower's petals. Green ribbons are the stalk and leaves, while the buttons color the anther (middle) portion of the sunflower. Glue and scissors are necessary to to make the craft.

    Recycled Craft

    • Giving items in the house a second use, as opposed to throwing them away, is good for the environment and can help teach children about being resourceful. A shirt turned into a backpack could come in handy outside the house as well. The shirt must be cut and re-sewn with a needle and thread. Clothesline cord or long shoelaces serve as the drawstring to enclose materials within the backpack.
