How to Print Stamps on the Bottom of Old Bottles

Create your own images or designs to print on any surface by making your own hand-carved stamp. This stamp can be used numerous times to personalize a variety of surfaces, from paper to fabric to glass. To print on glass, use a solvent-based ink, as this will adhere best. When creating your design, choose an image that will be easy to carve.

Instructions

    • 1

Choose or design the image you want to print on the bottom of the old bottle. Remember to create a stamp that is small enough to print on the bottom of the chosen bottle. Draw or trace this image onto a piece of tracing paper using a pencil.

    • 2

Use the craft knife to cut a piece of rubber carving block that is slightly larger than the chosen design. Place thick cardboard under the area where you are cutting.

    • 3

Place the carving block on your work surface. Put the tracing paper on top of the carving block with the drawn-on side facing down. Draw or shade over all the lines of your design with a pencil. Remove the tracing paper from the block. The design should now appear on the carving block.

    • 4

Brush over the carving with your fingers to remove any unneeded rubber pieces. This carving is your stamp.

    • 5

Press the stamp face down in the ink pad. Cover all the areas of the design that you want to print with a thin layer of ink.

    • 6

Place the bottle upside down so that the bottom of the bottle is facing up. Press the inked stamp face down on the bottom of the bottle. Apply even pressure over the back of the stamp.

    • 7

Lift off the stamp to reveal the printed bottle bottom. Leave the printed bottle to dry.

    • 8

Repeat steps 7 through 9 to stamp additional bottles.
