Find a pine cone and bake it in the oven for 45 minutes at 250 degrees to eliminate any bugs that may have been inside it. Glue two acorn tops to the front of the pine cone to create the eyes. Cut out a beak from a second pine cone and glue that under the eyes. Glue two fake feathers to the sides of the pine cone. Paint the beak and eyes to give the owl a more enjoyable appearance. Glue it to a rock for a stand.
Find a round rock of any size. Use a thin brush and gray, black, white and brown paint to delicately paint the features of an owl on the rock. The wings must be folded into the body so that they appear on the rock. Use the large circles of the eyes and the beak to separate from the rest of the body. You can use this as a paperweight or a garden decoration.
You can also create a mini owl using cardstock and pebbles. Simply take a number of gray pebbles and glue them onto paper in the familiar circular shape of the owl. Use white pebbles for the eyes, a light gray or brown pebble for the beak and then the same color for the wings. Once the glue is dried, post the cardstock on your wall.
This owl craft may even control pests in your garden. Find a large rock that either has a natural indentation near the top, or chip a place out. Glue on fake feathers and a fake beak made from pine cone or pebbles. In the indentation, leave dim light bulbs or battery-operated "candles" to alert the pest to the presence of the owl. Place the owl in a nest or elevated location. It will serve both as a fun craft for your environment and a as a potential rodent deterrent.
