How to Curl a Wig With a Curling Iron

Styling with a curling iron can boost the appeal of any human-hair wig. Curling irons are safe to use on both human-hair and human-synthetic hair blends. Take caution when working with a human-synthetic wig. Blended wigs require low-level heat to avoid melting the synthetic fibers. In addition, keep full synthetic wigs away from curling irons at all times. Wear your curled wig to a costume party, out on the town or for a wardrobe piece as part of a stage production.

Instructions

    • 1

Hand wash your wig with warm water and mild shampoo. Run a comb through the wig to remove any hair knots. Squeeze the locks with a towel to dry the hair.

    • 2

Plug in and heat a 1-inch curling iron. A 1-inch-thick iron can give your wig standard curls. Choose a thinner iron for tighter curls or a wider iron for larger, wavier curls.

    • 3

Grip the end of a 1-inch section of locks into the prefabricated curling iron clip. Roll the iron upwards, toward your scalp. Hold the iron in this position for one or two seconds. Unroll the iron. Continue this process until the entire wig is curled.

    • 4

Dampen the curls with standard hair spray to hold the style in place.
