Early Life and Education:
Benji Brown was born on December 18, 1943, in Daytona Beach, Florida. His father, Benjamin W. Brown, was an insurance agent, and his mother, Frances D. Brown, was a homemaker. Benji had two sisters, Barbara and Betsy.
He attended public schools in Daytona Beach and graduated from Mainland High School in 1962. Brown then enrolled at the University of Florida, where he studied business administration. He graduated with honors in 1966.
Career:
After graduating from college, Benji Brown joined his father's insurance agency, Brown & Brown. He quickly rose through the ranks and became a partner in the firm in 1972.
Under Benji's leadership, Brown & Brown grew rapidly and became one of the largest insurance brokerage firms in the United States. The company expanded its operations throughout the country and acquired numerous other insurance agencies.
In 1985, Benji Brown was named chairman of the board of directors of Brown & Brown. He served in this position until his death in 1992.
Philanthropy:
Benji Brown was a generous philanthropist who donated millions of dollars to various charities and causes. He was particularly passionate about education and healthcare.
He established the Benji Brown Foundation in 1986 to provide financial assistance to students pursuing higher education. The foundation has awarded scholarships to hundreds of students over the years.
