Play instruments often used in the Baroque period. These instruments include strings instruments such as cello, violin and bass as well as the harpsichord and woodwinds. Brass instruments were little used in the Baroque period.
Keep the pace and rhythm of the music the same throughout the piece. Baroque music rarely varies in rhythm or mood during one specific piece of music. If the piece starts out happy, it will remain happy until the end. A sad or melancholy song will remain sad until the end.
Do not vary the sound of the music gradually. Any sound changes should be sudden. Change from loud to soft quickly and soft to loud just as quickly. The reason behind this sudden volume change is attributed to the fact that the harpsichord was unable to gradually increase volume.
Keep a main melody throughout the musical piece. Classical songs often had one main melody threaded throughout the piece of music with an accompaniment to the main melody.
Use broken chord progressions. Classical music uses much more variations in the types of chords used to create the music.
Play instruments often used in the classical period. In addition to the strings and woodwinds of the Baroque period, the Classical period also used brass instruments, such as the clarinet, oboe, bassoons and trumpets in much more prominent positions. These instruments were officially added to traditional orchestras during the Classical period.
Vary the volume of the music from loud to soft gradually. You can also change the speed and rhythm of the music throughout the piece. Classical pieces also vary the mood of the music from happy to sad in one piece or in a succession of movements.
