Comedy Clubs in Dallas, Texas

The Dallas-Fort Worth area has long been the home of a talented stand-up comedy scene. Bill Hicks got his start at the Comedy Annex in Dallas as a teenager in the early 1980s, and Sam Kinison recorded several of his comedy albums in Dallas clubs. Though many of the clubs have switched owners or changed names since the heyday of stand-up comedy in the 1980s, Dallas continues to have a thriving comedy scene.

  1. The Addison Improv

    • The Improv, the largest chain of comedy clubs in the country, has a club in Addison, just outside of Dallas. The Addison Improv features weekly headliners from across the country, such as Greg Geraldo, Tom Rhodes and Dave Attell. As well as special shows featuring the top of Dallas's rising talent, who have been featured on such programs as \"Last Comic Standing\" and \"Live At Gotham.\" The Improv has a full kitchen and bar, and also books private parties and events. Prices and reservations vary per show, so be sure contact the club in advance.

    Hyenas

    • Hyenas is a chain of comedy clubs with locations in Arlington, Dallas and Fort Worth. Each club is open Thursdays through Sundays, with national headliners performing on Friday and Saturday nights. Hyenas regularly books local Texas Headliners from Austin or Houston such as Jr. Brow, Jimmie Roulette and Sean Rouse, but it also occasionally draws in larger names, such as Doug Benson or Nick Thune. Each club has a full bar and lounge area outside of the showroom. Prices and show times vary, so between sure to contact the club beforehand.

    Back Door Comedy

    • In contrast to the Improv or Hyenas, The Back Door Comedy Club is a relatively smaller, intimate space that plays host to a variety of local rising talent and headliners. Thursday nights are \"Open Mic\" nights, with a list of local comics trying out new material for three minutes each. Friday and Saturday nights are the \"Best Of\" showcase nights, with a group of local favorites performing longer sets of some of their best material. Back Door Comedy Club has food and drink for all their shows. Prices and times for each night differ, so be sure to contact the club beforehand.
