Comedy Clubs in Michigan with Comedians

People have no problem finding things to do in Michigan. The options vary from attending a basketball game at Michigan State or the University of Michigan, to driving on the scenic Great Lakes Circle Tour, to visiting a museum in Detroit. Comedy clubs provide another option. The Wolverine State has a mix of stand-up, sketch and improv shows that feature live comedy.

  1. Chaplin's Comedy Club

    • Chaplin’s Comedy Club attracts nationally touring stand-up comedians like Dave Landau, who has appeared on television stations such as the Comedy Channel. The club also doesn’t forget about up-and-coming comics: it hosts an open mic night every Thursday. Located in Clinton in Macomb County, northeast of Detroit, Chaplin's is for people 21 and over and offers shows Wednesday to Saturday.

    Connxtions Comedy Club

    • Lansing, Michigan’s capital, can be a serious place. Connxtions Comedy Club helps lighten things up. The club allows people 18 and over and attracts local and touring comedians, such as D.L. Hughley and Rob Schneider. Shows are held Wednesday to Saturday. The Public Defenders, a nearby comedy troupe, operate a showcase for local comedians on Wednesdays. People looking to perform can introduce themselves to the troupe's members.

    Go Comedy Improv Theater and Bar

    • The Go Comedy Improv Theater and Bar’s slogan is “We Make Stuff Up!” Indeed, the venue’s regular improv shows combine natural talent with audience input. Shows are performed Wednesday to Sunday and include an open mic night for improv comedians on Wednesdays, sketch shows and stops by nationally touring troupes. Fledgling comedians can take classes to learn the art of improv.

    River City Improv

    • River City Improv gives audiences a break from foul-mouthed comedians. The troupe consists of Christians who are alumni of or support Calvin College. Audience members participate by giving the performers suggestions in how to act out scenes. River City Improv performs at Gezon Auditorium on Calvin’s campus and at the Ladies Literary Club. Both venues are in Grand Rapids, located in the western part of the state. Performances are typically twice a month.
