    The Rex Theater

    • The Rex Theater is located on the south side of Pittsburgh. This distinctive area showcases a number of mom-and-pop shops that have been a part of Pittsburgh's business scene for decades. The south side also hosts a number of trendy hot spots and eateries for young adults. The Rex Theater opened on Carson Street in 1905. Primarily a spot for musicians, the Rex invites a variety of indie-inspired bands to its stage. On Thursday nights, however, this theater transforms into a haven of comedic relief. The Rex hosts an open mic comedy evening once a week. Local comedians take the stage for traditional stand-up acts. Each jokester is required to have at least 3 minutes of material, but should not exceed 6 minutes. The Rex aspires to give comedians the opportunity to perfect their craft by offering them a venue to share their hilarity.
