Instructions for the Just Fine Line Dance

"Just Fine" was written by R&B recording artist Mary J. Blige and was released Oct. 16, 2007, as the title track for her eighth studio album, "Growing Pains." The track was nominated for Best Female R&B Vocal Performance for the 50th Annual Grammy Awards ceremony. The line dance has a separate name, "Go Hard or Go Home," and is performed by Ed Williams. Though it may look difficult and intimidating at first, once you know the basic steps, you can break it down piece by piece and quickly learn the dance.

Instructions

  1. The Verse

    • 1

Taking your left foot, step up, then back, then up, then back, then up. This takes up five counts.

    • 2

Bring your left foot back under you and tap your right foot. This takes up two counts.

    • 3

Slide right, slide left, slide right. This should take three counts.

    • 4

Slide right with a triple step. This involves stepping to your right, moving your left foot under you until it is against your right foot, and then stepping once more out to the right. The first two steps take up one count. The third takes up one count of its own.

    • 5

Perform a seven-count cross. To do this, step forward with your left foot, crossing it over your right. Step back on your right foot. The next step is to the left and opens up your body again. Now, step with your right foot and cross this over your left. Step back on your left foot. Step over with your right foot. Step forward with your left foot, again crossing over your right. You should finish the seven-count cross with your left foot forward and crossed in front of your right.

    • 6

Slide to the right. Slight back to the left. This takes two counts.

    • 7

Do a "Baltimore" step with your left foot. This involves pushing your left foot out for one count, pulling it in for one count, pushing it back out and in in one count, and then pushing it out one more time to the left for the last count.

    • 8

Bring your left foot back and push your right leg out for one count.

    • 9

Bring your right foot back and push your left leg out for one count.

    • 10

Bring your left foot back and push your right leg out for one count.

    • 11

Bring your right foot back and push your left leg out for one count.

    • 12

Bring your feet back together and lift your right knee for one count, then lift your left knee for one count.

    • 13

With your right leg, do two half-turns with one count each. You should return facing the same direction as before, but leave your right leg slightly farther back than the left. Lift your right knee up and bring it back down, planting your right foot.

    • 14

Roll with your shoulders for two counts.

    • 15

Tap your left heel twice, once in front of you, once to the side, for two counts.

    • 16

Execute a three-count as if jogging in place, first stepping with your left foot, then your right, then your left.

    • 17

You now essentially perform the dance as if repeating the dance from step 5, but with the opposite directions. You start your seven-count cross with your right foot crossing over your left. Step back on your left foot. The next step is to the right and opens up your body again. Now, step with your left foot and cross this over your right. Step back on your right foot. Step over with your left foot. Step forward with your right foot, again crossing over your left. You should finish this seven-count cross with your right foot forward and crossed in front of your left.

    • 18

Slide to the left. Slight back to the right.

    • 19

Execute a "Baltimore" step, this time with your right foot.

    • 20

Bring your right foot back and push your left leg out for one count.

    • 21

Bring your left foot back and push your right leg out for one count.

    • 22

Bring your right foot back and push your left leg out for one count.

    • 23

Bring your left foot back and push your right leg out for one count.

    • 24

Bring your feet back together and lift your left knee for one count, then lift your right knee for one count. With your left leg, do two half-turns with one count each. You will finish with your left leg slightly behind the right. Lift your left knee and then plant your left foot back again. Roll for two counts.

    • 25

Tap your right heel twice, once in front of you, once to the side, for two counts. Execute a three-count, first stepping with your right foot, then your left, then your right. With your left foot, tap your left heel twice as before for two counts. Execute a three-count, first stepping with your right foot, then your left, then your right. Repeat this step once.

    The Chorus

    • 26

Execute a seven-count turn, stepping first with your left out to the side, turning to the left and stepping with your right, stepping around with your left, turning again to the left and stepping with your right, stepping with your left, and then stepping with your right, finally turning until you are facing your original direction and planting your right leg slightly behind your left like before with the two half-turns. A roll for one completes the seven-count turn.

    • 27

Repeat the seven count, this time leading with your right foot and turning to your right. Finish this seven-count with another roll.

    • 28

To end the chorus, tap your left heel twice, once in front of you, once to the side, for two counts, then execute the "jogging" three-count.

    • 29

Raise your right knee up and pivot on your left foot, completing a half-turn. Let the half-turn take up four counts.
