Open up a Microsoft Word document. Go to insert Header. Select the box that says blank box with three columns. In the middle column select the words {type here}. Write your company name in the space. Click on font and select a large, readable font. Make it big and bold. Next on the left type in you business phone number. Select a smaller font than the business name that is still readable and bold.
In the space on the right include your name or professional DJ title. Click on the body of the page to leave the header space.
About three lines below the header begin to write the body of your song request slip. The first item you should include is Name(s):______________________________________________________.
Indicate if the song is to be sung by one or more singers. You might want to have a check off box to indicate whether the person intends to sing Solo ___________, Duet __________ or Group_______.
This avoids the embarrassment of a karaoke host having to run people off the stage who have had more than enough to drink and who have lost their sense of order and turn-taking skills.
The next item to include on your song slip is the title of the song and the artist name. By including both, singers can be more assured that the song that appears on the screen is the one they intended to sing. "One" by U2 will not be confused with "One" by Metallica or Three Dog Night. '' by referencing both with the song selection number, errors can be kept to a minimum. This also allows the Kj or DJ to program the music in an order that will maintain an entertaining environment for singers and listeners alike.
Next include the song selection number. This is most commonly created by professional KJs and DJs
by creating a number using the disk manufacturer's disc order number followed by a hyphen and the track number. Many will include a prefix using 1-3 letters to indicate the manufacturer or brand of discs.
Experienced singers might have a preference as to what brand of disc gives them the proper key and quality of recording they desire. Sound Choice Brand CDG disc 7515-11 would allow the singer to present "My Way" by Frank Sinatra. The song slip could have them write SC7515-11 for example.
Some optional features often included on a song slip are key change requests and contact information.
You can include a space to indicate if the singer desires to raise or lower the key of the song.
They might elect to leave their e-mail or cell phone information to be informed about future events, contests and shows in other venues by the same host. The song request slip is an informal business card that customers can take and keep in contact with the host.
A web address can be added if the KJ or DJ has his/her events on Facebook.com or MySpace.com.
