How Do I Make Karaoke Songs?

If you have always wanted to turn your favorite songs into karaoke songs with on-screen lyrics, modern computer software makes this possible without having to buy special disk drives as in the past. A couple of the most popular karaoke CD+G burning/ripping programs are Power CD+G Burner and MicroStudio. Karaoke songs are saved to CD+G (CD+Graphics) disks and are not compatible with standard CD+R disks. With these programs, you can easily create your own custom karaoke songs.
  1. The Software

    • To make your own karaoke songs, download and install CD+G creating and burning software. Depending on the company, both types of software may be bundled together or separate. There are countless ads for free karaoke software. Many are actually free trials, and you must pay to use the full version. If you plan to research and try some of the free software, make sure you are downloading it from a trusted website to prevent harm to your computer.

    Removing Vocals

    • CD+G creating software gives you the option to remove vocals from WAV files on your computer or CD. These vocal removal applications only work with WAV files and do not work well with MP3 or other music files. Changing the file type from MP3 to WAV will not improve the quality, due to the MP3's compressed state. To remove the vocals from the selected song, open your CD+G creating software, click the "Remove Vocals" option, select the desired song from a CD or your hard drive, adjust any parameters (see your specific software's instructions) and click "OK" or "Process" to remove vocals.

    Adding On-Screen Lyrics

    • After removing the vocals from a song, you'll have an instrumental song that you can easily play and sing along with. To make it an official karaoke song, you must add the on-screen lyrics. Your CD+G creating software will make this a breeze. Simply choose the "lyrics editing" option on your specific CD+G creating application, select the song/file from which you just removed the vocals, and copy and paste the song's lyrics from a website to your application's text entry area. Refer to your software's specific instructions for guidance on synchronizing the lyrics with the song.

Burning Your Karaoke Songs To Disk

    • After your CD+G file is prepped and ready to go with lyrics, burn it to disk or save it and view it from your computer. Rather than burning only one song to your blank CD+G disk, repeat the steps for more of your favorite songs before burning them to disk. To burn your karaoke songs to disk, open your CD+G burner application, insert a blank CD+G disk, select the songs that you want to burn to disk, click the "Burn" button, and you have a homemade custom karaoke CD+G.
