How to Compose a Karaoke Song List

Karaoke hosts, also called KJs, have the challenge of producing and providing their customers with a list of songs available to sing. Those hosts who add frequently to their selection must find an efficient way to add songs to their collection. Singers who frequent their karaoke shows need a song selection book that is easy to use and readable in the sometimes dark environment of the karaoke venue. Your songbook can be a powerful advertising tool where you can promote your business with not only a list of songs but also a weekly schedule of your shows.

Make a list of every disc you intend to include in your song selection book. List each disc by brand and disc number. The disc number is usually included on the face of the disc and is preceded by a company code.

These codes can be useful in distinguishing different brands. For example, SC5399 can be Sound Choice disc 5399.

Visit the company website. Cut and paste the names of the artists and titles onto an Microsoft Excel spreadsheet or the equivalent. Create three columns. Label the first "Artist," the second "Song title," and the final column "Song number." Highlight the artists on the disc. Paste the names of the artist in the first column. Then highlight the song titles. Paste them into the second column. In the song number column type in the disc identification code. You may create your own disc numbers or use the number provided by the manufacturer.

Use Columns Fill/down to fill the song numbers in sequence. A song could have a number such as SC8511-01.

Continue to add new discs off the disc companies' websites. Other places to look for lists of "CD with graphics products" are retail vendors' websites. They frequently have a database of the CDG products they sell. For those discs that you cannot use the cut-and-paste method, simply read the titles off the jewel case or off the CD itself. If you are unsure of the names of the artists, use a search engine or a record store website to learn the artists' names.

After you have completed the list of all the CDGs in your collection, sort the document in alphabetical order.

Read and edit the document for errors. Adjust capitalization and punctuation as needed. Use add header and footer to include your business name, email and phone numbers.

Print out a copy and send the book to a local print shop for reproduction. Make six to eight copies for most professional karaoke venues. Use three-ring binders with plastic presentation pages to ensure the books stay in good condition.
