How to Add Volume Control to the Green Bullet

The Green Bullet is the more common name for the Shure Model 520 harmonica microphone, which originally was introduced in 1949. The modern production model is the Green Bullet 520DX, which includes a built-in volume control knob. Older versions lack this or any other adjustment feature. It is easy to add volume control to the Green Bullet by connecting it to an equalizer or volume pedal.

Instructions

    • 1

Connect the cable from the Green Bullet microphone to the "In" port on the equalizer or volume pedal.

    • 2

Connect the instrument cable from the "Out" port of the equalizer or volume pedal to the "In" port of the amplifier.

    • 3

Turn the volume control of the amplifier to the minimum setting to prevent accidentally creating deafening sounds or feedback when it is turned on.

    • 4

Turn the volume control of the equalizer to the maximum setting. If you are using a volume pedal, press the pedal all the way down.

    • 5

      Turn on the amplifier.

    • 6

Adjust the volume of the amplifier until it is set to the loudest setting you want to be able to access with the volume control connected to the Green Bullet. You can now use that volume control to adjust the Green Bullet as much as needed. The amplifier volume setting removes the issue of accidentally adjusting the volume too high.
