How to Repair a Loose FireWire Jack on a Digi 002R

The DigiDesign Digi 002 Rack is a rack-mountable digital recording interface that runs on the Pro Tools LE audio recording software. It connects directly to your Macintosh or PC computer via FireWire cable, which allows for convenient mobile recording. Disconnecting and reconnecting this cable repetitively from the FireWire port on the back of the Digi 002 Rack unit can cause the port to come loose. If a loose FireWire connector is ignored, it will eventually affect how the Digi 002 Rack connects to your computer.

Instructions

    • 1

Power down your computer and disconnect the FireWire cable from both your computer and the Digi 002 Rack unit. Disconnect the power cable and all instrument, microphone and/or MIDI cables from the back of the unit. If the 002 Rack is mounted to a rack system, remove the Philllips head screws fastening the unit to its slot inside the rack. Pull the Digi 002 Rack out of the rack and relocate it to a padded work surface.

    • 2

Loosen and remove the 14 Phillips head screws from the 002 Rack's top panel. Grasp the panel on either side with your hands, and lift the panel off the unit to reveal the internal components of the unit.

    • 3

Locate the loose FireWire port mounted from inside the Digi 002 Rack's back panel. Use a Phillips head screwdriver to tighten the screws, securing the loose port to the unit's back panel. Tighten each screw until the port sits firmly in its slot on the back panel.

    • 4

Place the top cover back onto the unit, and replace the 14 Phillips head screws until the top cover is firmly secured in place.
