How to Use the Samson G-Track

The Samson G-Track is the world's first USB microphone with a built-in audio interface. It comes with the Sonar LE "Cakewalk" digital audio recording software. Its USB connection makes it instantly compatible with any Mac or PC. Its built-in audio interface functions like an external pre-amp, capturing the recorded sound and rendering it as a digital signal that you can then edit and mix on your computer.

Instructions

    • 1

Install the Sonar LE "Cakewalk" digital audio recording software by loading the CD into your computer's CD or DVD drive. After installation of the basic product, you will be prompted to download and install the latest drivers for Cakewalk.

    • 2

Plug the microphone into the computer via the USB cable connection. As the microphone is plugged into the computer, it draws its power from the computer and requires no external power supply to function.

    • 3

Start up the Sonar LE Cakewalk software on your computer. It should instantly recognize the G-Track as an input source. Assign the G-Track to a mixer channel by double clicking on the channel strip and selecting "audio track." If you want to record vocals and an electric instrument simultaneously, you can plug in the instrument into the G-Track via a standard 1/4-inch instrument cable. The G-Track will record your vocals at the same time as it picks up the signal from the instrument. You can record mono acoustic or electric instruments with the G-Track.

Adjust the volume level on the microphone to your desired setting by doing a few test-runs of your recording. When you are ready to begin the main recording, simply hit the record button on the Cakewalk software and begin singing and/or playing.

Repeat Steps 2 through 4 while wearing headphones to do vocal or acoustic overdubs on a pre-existing track.
