Connect a microphone, instrument or digital sound source to an appropriate input on the VS-2400. Select the input bank that includes your input channel using either the "In 1-12" or "In 13-16" button. Move the channel fader to "0" position and adjust the "Mic/Line" knob to set the level for analog signals. Press the channel edit button for your track to access the equalization and compressor settings and adjust to your taste. You can also add effects via the VS-2400's built-in effects. These parameters, as well as panning position, can be selected via the channel parameter buttons, as well.
Select the appropriate track channel bank using the either the "Tr 1-12" or "Tr 13-24" button. Press the "Status" button on the corresponding track until it is red and flashing. Adjust the level of your headphones or monitor speakers with the appropriate knob located to the left of the LCD screen. Press the "Record" button in the transport section and then "Play" to capture your performance. When you are finished recording, press the "REW" button to rewind and press the red "Status" button again to disarm the track.
Continue recording until you have all tracks for your project ready. With the VS-2400 in the track channel banks, adjust levels of your recorded tracks. Use the channel edit buttons to access eq, compression and effects as you did with your input tracks. You may need to disable the effects from the input tracks for use with the recorded tracks. Press the "Automix" master button and use the channel edit button to pick tracks to automate. Adjust these until your mix plays as you wish.
Mastering is handled internally using the mastering tool kit in the effects or by recording stereo output via analog or digital means to an external device, such as a tape recorder or sound card-equipped computer. Internal mastering mixes your tracks down to a stereo pair of virtual tracks, which can then be burned to a CD, if your VS-2400 is CD-R equipped.
