Open the Fruity Loops program. Go to "View" and click "Step Sequencer." Click on the squares next to the instrument to create a loop pattern. Click "Pat" on the top of the screen and then click the play button to preview your loop.
Go to "View" and click "Browser." Choose a sound or an instrument such as a kick, hi hat or a snare. Click and drag it over to the Step Sequencer. Right-click on the sounds and select "Delete" to remove sounds you do not want.
Right-click on a sound in the Step Sequencer and select "Piano Roll." This will bring up a keyboard that allows you to select the pitch and key for a particular sound. This is useful for keyboard and other instrumental sounds.
Go to "View" and select "Play List." Click on the first cell and select how much you want that particular beat pattern to play. This includes everything you have composed in the first pattern of the step sequencer.
Click and increase the number patterns to two next to the tempo box. Browse for sounds and create a beat in the step sequencer for the second pattern. Add the second pattern to the Play List when you are done working on it. Continue to add as many patterns as you would like. Click the button that says "Song" and select the "Play" button to play all the patterns that you have mixed together.
