Open the Fruity Loops 7 program. Go to the top tool bar and click "View." Select "Browser" and drag the sounds that you want to use into the "Step Sequencer" such as a kick drum, hi hat, and snare. Go to "View" and click "Step Sequencer," if it is not already loaded.
Click the squares next to the sounds on the "Step Sequencer" to create a rhythm. Click the number on the upper left hand side of the "Step Sequencer" to increase or decrease the beats per bar. This will be your first pattern. Click the button that says "Pat" and then select the play button to preview your pattern.
Go to "View" and select "Play List." Click on the cell next to "Pattern 1" to add the sounds you have created from your pattern into the song. This is where your beat will be composed. Click the button that says "Song" right next to the "Pat" button and click play to preview your entire song.
Click and hold the number under "Pat" and change it to 2. This will create a new pattern which you will make more sounds to add onto the beat. Go to "View" and select "Browser" then choose some instrument sounds such as a piano or an organ. Drag these sounds into the "Step Sequencer."
Right click on a sound in the "Step Sequencer" and select "Piano Roll." Click on the cells next to the notes on the keyboard to change the pitch and key of the sound. Go to "View" and select "Play List" and add what you had by clicking on the "Pat 2" cell. Do this for as many patterns as you like.
