Summer Music Programs in Maryland

Ottley Music School

• The summer music program at the Ottley Music School is in Hyattsville, Maryland. It's an ideal place of study. Students who enroll in the Ottley Music School summer program have the option of entering into a week-long camp for beginners or a two-week camp for intermediate and advanced music students. Participants receive private lessons on their instrument of choice, and they are also introduced to the harp, steel drums and African drums. At the end of the program, students perform in a concert open to parents, staff members and the community.

The International Music Institute and Festival

• The International Music Institute and Festival USA is a summer music program for high school string musicians. Internationally acclaimed musicians come to Emmitsville, Maryland, to participate as staff members at IMIF. Enrollment in this program is limited, so applicants are required to be time conscious when registering. Students who have participated in the International Music Institute and Festival have gone on to pursue professional careers in the music industry.

  The program IMIF also offers a preparatory summer music program for children ages 5 to 13. It is a three-day program that immerses its students in all aspects of music. It also encourages them to come back to the IMIF for further study.

National Orchestral Institute

• The National Orchestral Institute located on the campus of the University of Maryland offers an intensive month-long study of orchestra music. Students who enroll in NOI are young musicians serious about their future in the music industry. An in-depth study of chamber music, orchestral performance, chamber orchestras and professional development is the focus of NOI's curriculum. Participants of the National Orchestral Institute have landed careers with major symphony orchestra across the United States as well as international orchestras.
