How to Dry LP Record Covers

Long-playing (LP) records are vinyl albums that are played on a record player. They require care as they can wear out or become damaged over time. Record owners may store their old LPs in a basement or location where moisture and mildew may appear on the record covers. You can easily remove the mildew and moisture from the record cover, but you must do it carefully to not create any tears or rips.

Instructions

    • 1

Carefully remove the record and sleeve from its cover. Use a dry cloth to remove any moisture that may appear on the record or sleeve.

    • 2

Spray an odor-neutralizing product inside of the cover and let the cover dry over night. Make sure the spray is an aerosol product, not a liquid spray.

    • 3

Locate all additional areas of moisture on the record cover and lightly dab a dry sponge over them.

    • 4

Rub a paper towel gently across the cover to remove any dirt or mildew before you dry the cover.

    • 5

Place the record cover outdoors in a sunny spot to let it dry. You can also dry the cover by putting in your microwave for 20 seconds to quickly extract the moisture.
