Hip Hop Nightclubs in Dallas

Dallas is known for its vibrant night life, and clubs that specialize in hip hop music are very much part of the scene. These clubs are often big establishments with large dance floors and multiple bars. The music is most often played by DJs in a highly charged atmosphere complete with light shows.

  1. Club Purgatory

    • Situated in downtown Dallas, Club Purgatory is a longtime popular destination for the hip hop crowd. This high-energy club has three dance floors as well as multiple bars and lounges. Each floor has its own theme, "Pit, Heaven and Hell.'' The music is mostly hip hop, but top 40 dance tunes are also played at the club, which tends to draw a younger crowd. Weekly events include Co-Ed Thursdays and Social Saturdays. In operation since 2004, Club Purgatory is open Thursdays through Saturdays from 10 p.m. until 2 a.m. and also has Sunday hours. There is a cover charge and valet parking is available.

    Club Hush

    • Club Hush in downtown Dallas has three dancing areas, including one on the rooftop. The music varies by area of the club. Inside, DJs play hip hop, rap and reggae. The patio area features DJs playing salsa, merengue, hip hop and reggae. The musical selections on the roof are mixed. Patrons 18 and older are admitted, but you have to be 21 to drink. Club Hush has a cover charge, but women are admitted free before 11 p.m. on Saturdays. Other features include pole dancing and various contests. Coupons for reduced cover charges are available at the club, which holds a New Year's Eve bash.

    Lizard Lounge

    • The Lizard Lounge is a huge establishment that features a main floor with multiple bars and a sprawling dance floor. During the nonwinter months, the club also opens its rooftop deck, which has its own bar in a more tranquil setting. Popular with the younger crowd, the Lizard Lounge features a variety of music played by DJs, including weekend nights when hop hop and R&B are regular offerings. The club also has special nights for Gothic and industrial music. Other special events include the "Invasion of the Naughty School Girls,'' in which girls dressed in naughty attire get in free. The club is open Thursdays through Sunday from 9 p.m. to 4 a.m. The cover charge varies by evening.
