Start building your network of other artists, producers and professionals in the music industry, both in person and on the Internet. Build a website featuring clips, song lyrics, and free songs in order to find a fan base. Utilize social networking sites to get your music to friends and potential fans without spamming or sending unsolicited messages.

Build on your fan base by doing local shows. You may have to start at the bottom as far as venues, but it is possible to work your way up with a little recognition. If you are serious about landing a record deal, you will benefit from any exposure.
