How to Fasten a Guitar Strap

Although makers of acoustic guitars do not always install a pin for a guitar strap, most electric guitars do have the pins installed. For an acoustic guitar, you can install the pins yourself so you can fasten the guitar strap or have a store do it. A guitar strap can prevent you from dropping and damaging your guitar.

Instructions

    • 1

Drill a hole in the base of the guitar neck on the side facing away from you when you hold the guitar to play. The hole should measure about 3/32" in diameter and should be about 3/8" to ½" deep and screw in the second strap peg. As an alternative, you may want to have someone at a music store install the hole for the pegs.

    • 2

Find the two pins or knobs on your guitar. There should be one near the neck and one at the bottom of the guitar body.

    • 3

Find the small slits on each end of the guitar strap.

    • 4

Push the guitar strap over the knob on the guitar to fasten the guitar strap.
