How to Do a Guitar Flip

Playing live shows is one of the most thrilling aspects of performing music. The band gives to the audience, the audience in turn gives back; at times, however, a lackluster performance will not genuinely inspire the crowd. Fortunately, the modern rock musician has a bevy of crowd-thrilling moves at his or her disposal. The guitar flip is one of the most entertaining moves that a band can employ during a live concert, and it is bound to create excitement within the audience.

Instructions

    • 1

Place the guitar over your body with a strap in a normal playing position.

    • 2

Stand straight, make sure the immediate area around you is clear and double check that the strap on the guitar is secure.

    • 3

Fling the guitar backward with a hard push from your right hand; this motion would have the guitar swinging backwards to the player's right side of the body, disappearing behind the back and coming in front of the body again from the left shoulder.

    • 4

Rock your torso slightly forward as you begin the spin; as the guitar spins around the body, lean in the opposite direction from where it is located. This circular movement helps perpetuate the guitar's motion, which is similar to the motion that one would make to use a hula-hoop.
