Instructions

    • 1

Read a variety of guitar lesson books, websites and magazines. Learn from the experts about what makes a successful guitar lesson while also finding lesson outlines and exercises to use in your lessons.

    • 2

Consult with well-regarded guitar teachers. Gather as many lesson-writing tips as possible, and try to discover what has made these teachers' lessons successful.

    • 3

Decide on the levels and styles you will teach. If you feel you are not able to teach certain styles or levels, avoid designing lessons that teach them.

    • 4

Write lessons that start with the very fundamentals of guitar playing. Explain how a guitar works, introduce the various part of guitars, how to tune, how to produce notes, how to hold fingers down on the strings, how to position hands, and any other basic information an absolute beginner may not know.

    • 5

Write lessons that are divided into sections. Allocate a certain amount of time to developing different skills to make students well-rounded guitarists.

    • 6

Include finger strengthening and speed exercises in your lessons. A student's progress as a guitarist depends on how well her fingers move.

    • 7

Include elements of music theory in your lessons. Give short lectures on music theory, and back up the lectures with practical examples in exercises and songs.

    • 8

Include plenty of time in each lesson for teaching songs, playing songs and jamming with your student.
