How to Get Accepted to the Red Bull Music Academy

The Red Bull Music Academy provides music artists an opportunity to collaborate in an informal inter-disciplinary atmosphere. The Academy selects participants through a competitive application process in which 60 candidates are selected for enrollment in one of two sessions. The Red Bull Music Academy encourages artists in any variety of performance genre or audio engineering discipline to apply for admission. Although there is no defined process through which a candidate can guarantee her admission into the program, creating a cohesive, complete application package is an essential stepping stone in the admissions process.

      Access the Red Bull Music Academy's website and download the current application form. The application is encoded as a .PDF file. If your computer is not equipped with a .PDF reader, consider downloading a shareware program such as Adobe Reader, Xpdf or DigiSigner. These programs will allow you to access .PDF files.

      Complete the application form, replying to each prompt. The Red Bull Music Academy admissions committee will automatically dismiss any incomplete application.

      Create a "demo" recording of your musical output, including a minimum of 30 minutes of music. No particular genre of music is preferred or required. DJs can submit compilations and mixes as opposed to original creative material. Heavily compressed audio formats such as .MP3 are discouraged. Video and other multimedia formats are inadmissible.

      Include a copy of your passport photo and an original photo and label each with your name and country of origin.

      Mail the application form, CD demo recording and photos to the address provided on the Red Bull Music Academy's website. All materials must be postmarked before the deadline provided on the website.
