The Screamin' Blues pedal comes in a conventional stomp-box format, about 5 in. by 3 in. by 2 in. high, slightly larger than the standard BOSS stomp-box style it emulates. Weighing in at almost 1.5 lbs., it is well-built and designed to absorb abuse under working conditions. Connections are made via standard 1/4-in. phone jacks, two outputs and one input that also controls switching power to save battery life. The unit is controlled by a large foot switch and four parameter knobs; an LED indicator shows when it is active.
The Screamin' Blues pedal has four adjustable controls as well as an on/off switch. From the left, the "Level" control adjusts the output of the effected signal. This is used to balance the level of the distorted sound with the level of the straight guitar signal. Next, the "Low" and "High" knobs allow you to adjust the equalization of the unit's sound. Last, the "Gain" control sets the level of distortion. All knobs experience an increase in effect when turned clockwise.
Powered by either a 9-volt battery or an appropriate power supply, the Screamin' Blues unit draws 23 milliamps at 9 volts, and 4.8 watts with the recommended power supply. Input impedance is typically high for guitar at 1 megaohm, and outputs are about 100 ohms. Battery life is estimated at 18 hours of continuous use.
One feature that sets the Screamin' Blues apart from similar pedals is its dual outputs. Labelled "Out 1 (AMP)" and "Out 2 (MIXER)," it offers different connection options. Using "Out 1," it operates as a typical mono guitar pedal. The "Out 2" jack features amp- and speaker-simulation circuitry. This allows a guitarist to plug directly into a PA mixer or recording device while approximating the sound of a dedicated guitar amp with a microphone on the speaker cabinet.
