How to Connect a New Head Unit to an Old CD Changer

Sometimes it becomes necessary to replace a CD changer's head unit -- the part in a car stereo that typically can be removed by the owner when leaving the vehicle, for added security. Provided the new head unit is designed to work with your cd changer, the process of connecting it should take only a few moments. When selecting a replacement, check the manufacturer's specifications -- either by looking at the make and model of your old cd changer and consulting with customer support, or by visiting the manufacturer's website and selecting a compatible head unit.

Instructions

    • 1

Place the bottom part of the head unit so that the bottom face of the unit lines up squarely with the frame of the old CD changer.

    • 2

Tilt the head unit at a 45-degree angle, and let the bottom of the unit rest on the ridge just inside the old CD changer. You will notice two grooves on either side of the head unit. These must line up with the insets on the old CD changer.

    • 3

Press in on the top of the head unit, to connect it squarely with the old CD changer. The head unit will snap into place and will power on when you start the vehicle.
