Music Festivals in North America in the Summer Months

Summer music festivals are generally large-scale events that attract thousands of people annually. These festivals can feature bands and other musical acts that are well-known, but many also introduce lesser-known performers to their audiences. North America, specifically the United States and Canada, hosts some of the largest summer music festivals in the world.
  1. Milwaukee Summerfest

    • Touted on its official website as "The World's Largest Music Festival," Milwaukee Summerfest is an 11-day festival featuring musical performances by more than 800 different bands. The festival is held annually on the shore of lake Michigan in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and attracts around a million people each year. Summerfest features a wide variety of bands that play music from virtually all music genres, including rock, rap, pop, disco and country. Past performers have included Tim McGraw, Kool and the Gang, Sheryl Crow, Sean Kingston, Less Than Jake, Eric Clapton, Cypress Hill and Weird Al Yankovic.

    Brott Music Festival

    • The Brott Music Festival is held each year during the months of June, July and August in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. Featuring primarily classical and jazz music, Brott is the largest orchestral music festival in Canada. Many educational concerts are held during the festival which serve to educate children and adults alike on types of instruments, musical history, and other music-oriented subjects. The National Academy Orchestra of Canada, or the NAO, usually headlines one of the festival's largest performances. Past performances have also featured prominent violinist Lindsay Deutsch, soprano singer Leslie Anne Bradley and professional pianist Alexei Gulenco.

    Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival

    • Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival, located in Manchester, Tennessee, is held each year during June. The festival is one of the largest of its kind in the eastern United States, and its proceedings are usually covered in detail by Rolling Stone magazine. Rock, rap, jazz and pop can be heard at Bonnaroo, as well as a number of professional comedians. About 180 performers played at the festival in 2010, even though Bonnaroo was one of the youngest music festivals in the country at only nine years old. Some of Bonnaroo's shows have previously featured the Dave Matthews Band, Stevie Wonder, Rise Against, Norah Jones, Blues Traveler, Weezer and Regina Spektor.
