Located in New Orleans, Louisiana, the Essence Music Festival occurs during a three-day period each July. The festival has been in existence since 1995 and showcases some of R&B's and gospel music's most renowned acts. A list of past festival performers include Luther Vandross, Beyonce, Stevie Wonder, Patti Labelle, Frankie Beverly and Maze, Anita Baker and Kirk Franklin. In addition to musical performances, seminars are hosted by a variety of celebrity figures. Notable hosts have included Bill Cosby, Bishop T.D. Jakes, Jada Pinkett-Smith and Steve Harvey. Seminars explore topics affecting the African-American community. The festival was founded by Essence Magazine, a leading fashion and beauty magazine for African-American women.

The Verizon Music Festival, located in Virginia Beach, Virginia, is considered to be the largest outdoor music festival on the East Coast. The festival offers a variety of music ranging from jazz to country, along with a lineup that includes national and local performers. Performances are generally scattered on a variety of stages, with stages set up on a number of streets throughout town. VIP passes allow customers access to Friday and Saturday performances, in addition to receiving complimentary treats such as beer and wine. Past performers include Pat Benatar, Boys II Men, The Rippingtons and the Black Crowes. The festival is coordinated by Beachstreet USA.

The Atlanta Jazz Festival is located in Atlanta, Georgia at the beginning of each summer. Admission to the festival is free. As of 2010, the festival celebrated its 33rd year of existence and received sponsorships from the Atlanta Loews Hotel, Coca Cola, Jazztimes, and American Family Insurance. Among notable past performers are Miles Davis, Betty Carter, Stanley Clark and Joe Williams. The list of contemporary performers includes Marcus Miller, Spyro Gyra and the Metropolitan Atlanta Youth Wind Ensemble Jazz Band. The festival is coordinated by the city of Atlanta's Office of Cultural Affairs.
