The Memorial Day Parade kicks off the summer. The entire community participates, including local scout groups, town officials, school bands, veteran's representatives and town businesses. Two festivals are held throughout the year: Positively Pittsford in June and Pittsford Celebrates in September. Each festival provides a day for the community to come together and relax. Musical entertainment is featured from noon until 9 p.m. Games, rides and food served by different vendors add fun to the day. Halloween Fest offers a trick or treat alternative in October. The event is held at the St. John Fisher Field House. Model your outfit in the costume parade and enjoy refreshments, music, crafts and games. Close out the end of the year in December with Candlelight Night. Live music, sleigh bells and carolers can be heard throughout the streets. Free wagon rides, holiday treats, shopping and dining are all part of the celebration.
Pittsford's Summer Concert Series begins in June and features bands every Saturday night through mid-August. Musicians play to the beat of big band sounds, jazz, blues and Dixie. Concerts are free and begin at 7 p.m. Family Outdoor Movie Nights are held at Thornell Farm Park on Thursday evenings in August. Free popcorn and drinks are served, thanks to generous donations by sponsors.
Pittsford is home to many Farmers' Markets offering fresh produce and fruit, as well as milk and eggs from Pittsford Farms Dairy. Most markets begin selling in June, but Powers Farm Market opens the week prior to Easter and stays open through December. In addition to a wide variety of items, the farm offers hay rides, a petting zoo and a live nativity set in December. Lehman's Farm Market includes homemade ravioli and pasta at their stand. Flowers including annuals and perennials are available beginning in the spring and pumpkins are a popular item in the fall.
The Pittsford Community Library is not only a place to find your favorite book, movie or do online research, but also a gathering place for residents to attend community events throughout the year. The library regularly hosts both adult and children's events including book clubs, reading groups, summer reading programs and guest speakers. Special craft events such as beginning crochet and knitting classes, as well as creating cards and the perfect summer garden, are also featured. Events to help you in real life such as Introduction to Microsoft PowerPoint, Resume Writing and Internet Safety are also offered.
