Trance Clubs in New York

New York City has what is widely considered some of the best nightlife in the world. Though London may be the top international city for trance and techno music, New York certainly has its fair share of stellar clubs where DJs spin this style of music. Most of the best clubs are located downtown in the East and West Village as well as Chelsea and the Meatpacking District. These clubs feature top local and international DJs almost every night of the week. Whether you’re looking for a fancy see-and-be-seen mega club or a more intimate underground scene, New York is a great city to hear great trance music.
  1. Cielo

    • Cielo means “sky” or “heaven” in Spanish, and that’s exactly where you’ll find yourself at this club if you’re a diehard trance, house, or techno fan. Here, you’ll find beautiful people, cosmic lighting, and top-notch DJs on any given night. Cielo is located in the trendy Meatpacking District on Manhattan's Lower West Side, and the chic crowd seems in place in this highly fashion-conscious neighborhood. Designed by revolutionary British sound technicians at Funktion One, Cielo’s powerful sound system is one of the best in Manhattan. With its stylish décor and progressive music, it’s no wonder "The Village Voice" dubbed Cielo New York’s best nightclub in 2006. Mainstay DJs include Kevin Hodge, Francois K, and Louis Vega.

    Pink Elephant

    • Taking its name from the Prohibition-era expression meaning "a state of inebriation," this trendy house, trance, and techno club in the West Village has been a top nightlife draw since its opening in March 2006. Pink Elephant’s sexy, seductive interior features intimate lighting, a 30-foot floating bar with a panoramic view of the space, and a sunken wooden dance floor. The club’s state-of-the-art “intelligent sound system” creates four distinct audio zones, as special wind machines release citrus and cotton candy scents. Pink Elephant has hosted top-name DJs like Roger Sanchez and Paul Oakenfold. Keep your eyes out for celebrities. Bruce Willis, Keith Richards, Minnie Driver, and Pink are among the A-list celebrities that have paid Pink Elephant a visit over the years.

    Love

    • There are plenty of things to love about this underground trance and techno club tucked away on MacDougal Street. Love’s incredible sound system bodes well for its talented lineup of electronic DJs and high-energy crowd. This is an electronic music-lover’s club through and through so you won’t find as much gloss and expensive fashion as you would at other clubs. When you enter, you'll make your way down a flight of black-lit stars that open up on to a sizable dance floor, especially for a small underground club. In addition to the main dance floor and bar, Love features a quieter space, commonly know as the “Fraggle Rock Room,” which feels a whole lot like the setting of the popular Jim Henson kids show about colorful cave-dwelling critters. Love’s monthly Dub War is one of the more popular events.
