Native Flute Festivals

The Native American flute has a distinctive and instantly recognizable sound. It is not a mainstream instrument but can often be heard in world and new age music. However, there are still opportunities to hear the instrument in a traditional capacity at a handful of Native American events that take place in the U.S.
  1. Spring Flute Festival

    • The Spring Flute Festival is a one-day event at the Garden Valley Park in the northeast of Sacramento, California. The festival began in 2007 and is a free event suitable for all ages. As well as live performances, the festival tries to promote Native American culture through a series of workshops that teach people how to play traditional instruments.

    Yosemite Flute Festival

    • The Yosemite Flute Festival takes place over three days in September. As of 2011, the festival costs $5 for a three-day pass. It is located at the Sierra Sky Ranch Resort in Oakhurst, California. Over the weekend, there are several live performers, open mic shows and workshops. There is also a silent auction of traditional native instruments, with some of the money going to the festival's nonprofit partners.

    Musical Echoes

    • Musical Echoes Flute & Cultural Event is a festival that spans three days and takes place at Fort Walton Beach, Florida. The festival started in 2007 and focuses on traditional music and native culture. As well as the bands, there is art, craft, flute making and honor guards. There are numerous vendors on site selling Native American instruments, art, clothes and jewelry.
