Speak with the DJ to establish what he wants on the flyer and what he hopes to gain by having a flyer designed. Make sure to collect all the DJ’s contact information, all details about the performance and a few design ideas or other flyers that the DJ finds visually appealing. This information will give you a strong foundation to begin from.
Sketch a sample flyer. Take the information gained from the DJ and, using your design skills and creative ideas, draw five pencil-sketch drafts that you can submit to the DJ to get his feedback and direction.
Confirm approval of the flyer design by having the DJ sign an approval form. This protects both you and the DJ. A form is available for download in the resources below.
Design the final flyer on a computer using a graphics program such as Photoshop or Quark. Hand-drawn flyers are acceptable for some projects, but obtain the DJ's approval first. Make sure to include all information the DJ requested for the flyer.
Print, cut and deliver the completed flyers to the DJ. For optimum printing, use a professional printing service and high-gloss paper, and allow the printers to cut the flyers down if more than one flyer was printed on a sheet.
