Live Music Clubs in Royal Oak, Michigan

Although most of the well-known night clubs in the area are located in nearby Detroit, Royal Oak in the northern suburbs of the "Motor City'' does have a couple of clubs that feature live music. These include a club that specializes in jazz as well as a music hall that has hosted some famous bands. Music lovers can also avoid traveling to Detroit by going to a night club with music in nearby Ferndale.

  1. Goodnight Gracie's

    • Goodnight Gracie's bills itself as a Jazz and Martini bar, and is open daily from 5 p.m. to 2 a.m. Situated in the heart of Royal Oak, the bar offers live music on various nights of the week. When a live artist is not performing, the bar has music spun by various DJs on the other evenings of the week. The club also regularly offers various drink specials, included reduced prices on shots. Works by artists are put on display in a bar with elegant furnishings and an upscale ambiance. The bar also has an outdoor area where music is performed. Although it does not serve food, Goodnight Gracie's is connected to a restaurant called D'Amato's.

    Royal Oak Music Theatre

    • A long-time popular destination, the Royal Oak Music Theatre is a club that hosts a variety of music and has a dance floor in front of its stage. Opened in 1928, the club also stages various other forms of entertainment such as comedy shows. When live music is not being offered, the club is still alive with music spun by DJs. Another big feature is its annual New Years Party that includes live bands, DJs, a late-night buffet and champagne. Among the entertainers who have performed at the Royal Oak Music Theater are Billy Crystal, Robin Williams, Duran Duran, Hank Williams Jr., Iggy Pop and Run D.M.C.

    Magic Bag

    • Less than three miles from Royal Oak in Ferndale, the Magic Bag features live music most nights of the week with a large selection of both local and nationally-known bands and musicians. Rock & Roll, reggae and acoustical are just some of the types of music that is referred to as "The Bag'' by locals. The club also holds retro-music nights and evenings devoted to the songs of monster bands such as Metallica and Led Zeppelin. On Wednesdays and Thursdays the club has what it calls its Brew n' View nights in which patrons can watch movies that begin at 9:30 for a $2 admission.
