Turn off your amplifier. Unplug any pedal effects and the instrument from the amp. Turn off any nearby electronic instruments that broadcast a signal, such as a radio, cellular phone and wireless Internet router.
Align your effects pedals from left to right in front of the amplifier. Leave the instrument cables unplugged.
Reorder the pedal effects according to signal strength and dampening. For instance, the first pedal in the chain of effects should be a compression pedal, the second an E.Q. pedal, and the next few pedals should be arranged likewise. The third pedal in the chain should be any "drive" pedals, such as "overdrive" and "distortion." The next two pedals should be "modulators," such as "chorus" and "flange" pedals, with "time-based" pedals last, including "delay" and "reverb."
Plug the effects pedals into one another with instrument cables. Plug in the instrument last and turn it down completely. Turn on the amplifier and then each pedal, from left to right. Listen for hissing or feedback. Adjust the pedal frequency and range accordingly.
