Instructions

    • 1

Develop your craft and confidence. Enter rapping contests, open mike night and organize your own performance. Rapping live in front of an audience, even friends at a party, is an important step in honing your craft. Live performances allow you to develop your chops, stage presence and overall confidence.

    • 2

Make a rap demo. Select three to four songs that demonstrate your versatility and range. Record the demo in a recording studio or home studio. Another option is to record live performances.

    • 3

Put together a promo packet. In addition to the demo, include a short bio, a resume, a photograph and a list of past performances and performance highlights. Include contact information such as telephone number, mailing address and email address.

    • 4

Search online rap sources and local rap music music weekly papers for rap audition calls. Social networking, either in person or on the internet, is another important way to stay informed about upcoming rap auditions.

    • 5

Send your rap promo package to the people who are conducting auditions that interest you. If it is possible, drop the promo off in person. This is a way to get your foot in the door and make a first impression.

    • 6

Send your promo package to a booking agency. Many rap auditions are mediated through booking and talent agencies. This ensures that the audition is not inundated with amateurs. The booking agent's job is to find the right auditions and jobs for his client, however, a booking agent is typically not interested in working with a novice. Contact booking agencies after you have developed your craft, have professional experience and are a seasoned performer.
