How to Install Guitar Speakers

Sometimes guitarists who are in search of better tone upgrade the speakers in their amps. Many amps are sold with standard, Chinese-made speakers on board. More expensive American- or British-made speakers can drastically improve the sound of your amp. Different speakers have different characteristics; for example a vinyl speaker will give you a drastically different sound than a cardboard/paper diaphragm speaker.

Installing a new speaker is a relatively simple process that can be accomplished in a few minutes.

Disconnect the contacts from behind your speaker. There should be two. They should slide off if you tug in a firm back-and-forth motion.

Unscrew the speaker that is already in your case. It should have one screw on each corner for a total of four screws.

    • 3

Line your new speaker up with the four holes left by your old speaker.

    • 4

      Screw in your new speaker.

    • 5

Slide the wires onto the new speaker's contacts.

    • 6

Turn on your amp. Your speaker should be ready to go.
