How to Select Mixing Equipment for Live Music

A mixing board is an electronic device that channels music through amplifiers to produce live sound. The art of operating a mixing board is called "sound engineering." The sound engineer that works the mixing board pans certain instruments from left to right and into the center for lead vocals and instrumental solos. Generally, drums are panned to the outside of the left and right channels. Keyboards, bass guitars and other rhythm instruments are channeled left and right inside the drums. Guitars are near center and vocals are placed closest to the center.
