How to Power Multiple Guitar Pedals

Effects pedals, which are bound to be part of an electric guitar player's arsenal of equipment, enhance songs with the perfect vibe for a guitarist's style of playing. If using more than one pedal, powering them with batteries can get a bit expensive after a while, not to mention risky if playing professional gigs since batteries can die in the middle of a performance. There are power options that allow for powering all the pedals at once with one outlet.

Things You'll Need

  • Daisy-chain power cable
  • Regulated 9V AC adapter that fits one of the pedals
  • Powered pedal board

Instructions

  1. Daisy Chaining

    • 1

Attach the female end of the daisy chain to the barrel end of a 9V power supply.

    • 2

Connect each barrel of the daisy-chain plug to the power jack on an effects pedal. Continue connecting until all pedals in the effects setup are part of the daisy chain.

    • 3

Plug the power supply into an outlet. Power on all of the effects pedals to test if they function properly.

    • 4

It's possible one of the pedals is drawing too much current if they aren't working properly. Remove one of the effects pedals from the daisy chain, and repeat the process.

    Powered Pedal Boards

    • 5

A pedal board, available online or local music stores, includes the necessary power cables and power adapter. Look to see that the board has enough space to accommodate all the effects pedals.

    • 6

Place the pedals in the pedalboard in any preferred configuration, and connect them into any desired input/output order.

    • 7

Plug the supplied power cable jacks to each of the pedal's power inputs.

    • 8

Plug the included power supply into the wall outlet.
