Traditionally held in October, the Kerr County Fair features a petting zoo, talent contest, chili cook-off, bull riding, parade, carnival and midway. The annual Kerrville Folk Festival is held at the Quiet Valley Ranch and features over 100 musical artists during an 18-day festival. Gates are open 24 hours a day for revelers to wander in and out. The annual Kerrville New Folk songwriting competition is held on the first weekend and draws 32 of the best emerging songwriters from around the U.S. Participate in workshops on songwriting, blues guitar and harmonica. A variety of food items from barbecue to vegetarian selections are available as well as beer, wine smoothies, soft drinks and speciality coffee beverages.
