How to Hook Up a Crossover to a Sonic Maximizer

Sonic Maximizer is a frequency enhancer manufactured by BBE Sound and used for live, recorded and broadcast sound applications. In live audio system signal paths, sound enhancement devices, including compressors, equalizers and the Sonic Maximizer, are hooked up prior to the frequency crossover, which is then routed to power amps and speaker systems. Connecting the Sonic Maximizer to the crossover relies on standard audio input/output protocol and common audio interconnect cables. Stereo connection of the Sonic Maximizer is detailed in the product instructions. Mono operation is facilitated by using channel "A" input and output connection jacks.

Things You'll Need

  • Four shielded interconnect cables (1/4-inch TS, TRS or XLR connectors depending on equipment and balanced/unbalanced connection preference)

Instructions

    • 1

Turn off all device power switches and volume controls.

    • 2

Insert the plugs of two interconnect cables into the mixer's left and right main output jacks. If using other signal enhancers, insert the plugs into the left and right outputs of the last device in the signal path. Path order and device examples may include mixer, compressor, equalizer and Sonic Maximizer.

    • 3

Insert the remaining plugs of the interconnect cables into the left and right input jacks on the Sonic Maximizer.

    • 4

Insert the plugs of the second set of interconnect cables into the left and right output jacks on the Sonic Maximizer.

    • 5

Insert the remaining interconnect cable plugs into the left and right input jacks of the crossover. The crossover may now be connected to power amplifiers with additional interconnect cables from the crossover outputs to amp inputs.
