Turn your computer, secondary display and any other equipment to be connected — such as a turntable or speakers — off before making connections between them.
Connect your Serato interface or mixer to your computer via the supplied USB cord. The Serato Rane SL-1, Sl-3, TTM 57SL and MP-4 are all compatible with Serato Video-SL.
Connect your computer to the secondary display. Different displays have different connectors and related wires. The different formats include S-video, VGA and DVI, among others. Further, you must set up your computer hardware to recognize and use the secondary display or projector. Consult your computer’s documentation for information.
Connect any further devices used during performance to your Serato interface or mixer. Turntables are very common among DJs, as are MIDI controllers and related devices. Each one will have a different connection and setup procedure. Consult their documentation for details on wiring and setup.
Turn your computer and secondary display on. All Serato interfaces are powered by the computer’s USB port and will turn on automatically.
Ensure that your secondary display is receiving input from your computer. Serato Video-SL can’t use your computer’s main display -- you must use a secondary display to run the software.
Launch Serato Scratch Live. Its interface appears. The interface contains all of the control mechanisms and options available during performance.
Click on the “Video-SL” button in the Panels area on the left side of the Scratch Live interface. The Video-SL plug-in interface appears in the middle of the Scratch Live interface. A pop-up window labeled “Output Window” also appears.
Drag and drop the “Output Window” pop-up onto your secondary display.
Click the “Fullscreen” button in the Video-SL interface to make the “Output Window” fill the secondary display.
Add video files to Serato Video-SL by dragging and dropping them into the Scratch Live interface’s Library section. Alternatively, open the “File” menu, select “Open” and double-click the video files you want to use in the file browser pop-up. You are now ready to use video with Scratch Live. Consult the Video-SL documentation for details on running video during your performance.
