How to Convert an Audio File to Mp3

There are numerous reasons why you may need to convert an audio file to an MP3 file. Some portable media players will play only MP3s. You may also need to convert an audio file to an MP3 if you are creating a ringtone. Converting an audio file to an MP3 is easy. All you need is a blank CD and the right software program, and you can convert audio files to MP3 files in a few minutes.

      Begin by burning the audio files that you want to convert to MP3 files onto a blank CD. You can use your favorite media player to burn an audio CD. See the Resources section below for more information on burning a CD.

      Download and install the FreeRIP Basic program (see Resources below). Open the program.

      Insert the CD that you burned in Step 1 into your computer.

      Click the "Rip" option at the top of the program. A drop box will appear.

      Select "Rip Selected Tracks To MP3." The audio files on the CD will begin ripping to MP3 format.
