Simplest Way to Convert Music CDs to MP3

Converting audio CD (.wav) files into .mp3 files is easy. Anyone with a PC and a Windows operating system can do the conversion quickly with Window's resident media player (Windows Media Player.) You can even set up the player so that it will default to converting .wav files to .mp3's every time you need it to.
  1. Loading Audio Files

    • Load the CD you want to convert into your computer's CD drive. It should be automatically recognized. Then select the option "play audio." If Windows Media Player has been set as your default media player, it will automatically launch and start to play the CD. If you are given a choice of media players, then select Windows Media Player.

Ripping Audio Files to MP3 Format

    • In Windows Media Player, Click the "Rip" tab at the top of the play screen, and all the files on the CD will appear in the panel, and the name of the CD will appear at the top of the panel. Go back to the "Rip" tab, and then right-click it. Then mouse over "format" and "mp3." Before closing the dialogue box, select "more options," and take note of the location where the ripped files will be saved on your computer. It defaults to "c:/My Documents/My Music." If you want to set up a new folder for the files, this is the place to do it.

Now when you go back to the Rip tab at the top of the player screen and click it, you will be given the option of initiating the conversion process and save your audio CD files as .mp3's.
