How to Use Pledge to Remove Scratches From a CD

You can effectively use a household furniture polish, such as Pledge, to remove scratches from a CD. By covering the surface of a CD with a layer of Pledge, the scratches become filled in, allowing the CD to be read by a CD player. When finished repairing the CD, it is always a good idea to make a backup copy.

Instructions

    • 1

Lay your scratched CD on a flat surface with its read/write surface facing up.

    • 2

Spray Pledge on the CD’s read/write surface.

    • 3

Rub the Pledge onto the CD’s surface with a soft cloth in a circular motion until a layer of wax covers all of the scratches on the surface of the CD.

    • 4

Place the CD in a CD player to test the results. If the CD plays, make a backup copy of the CD for future use. If the CD does not play, try using another cleaning method for more severe scratches, such as using Brasso to remove the scratches.
